William was a crofter/salmon fisher whose parents lived at Wellheads near Buckie and later lived not far away in Bogmoor.
He was the father of Jane B Gray, but never married Georgina Gray.
Later in life he married Elizabeth and had two sons William and James. Elizabeth died when the two sons were still very young.

Born in Enzie, Georgina was a dressmaker, like her mother. She had her first child Isabella on 1 January 1885. The child lived with Georgina's family while she seems to have worked elsewhere as a Domestic.
A second child Jane was born on 3 March 1895. William Burges was registered as the father on the birth records. Both children were raised in the household of Georgina's father, William Gray, and were largely in the care of "Auntie Jean" who was both stepdaughter and housekeeper to William Gray.
